Vanuatu 4 (Water Music)

One of our trips on Vanuatu brought us to an island called Espirito Santo, pretty in the north of Vanuatu. Yes, diving is one of the main activities here since you can dive the USS Coolidge right from the beach!

But we did a few more things on this island :) ...

One was a visit to a cultural village. The video I have uploaded for you was taken on a tour to such a cultural village (village was located very close to Luganville, sorry that I forgot the name guys).
We were a bit disappointed of the tour itself, because we expected much more in terms of that they will tell us how the village people used to live on Vanuatu. They are no longer wearing their traditional clothes and their daily life is pretty much influenced by the western culture. The tour we did to the Ekasup Village on the island Efate was certainly much better (and cheaper at the same time! I will upload this video soon as wellpretty soon, just be patient please :).

But back to this culural village. Sure they explained a few things, how they make fire or how they (used to) sleep on a simple flax matress. Yes, I emptied as well my coconut shell of Kava, the traditional drink in Vanuatu. It tasted like muddy water, others say it tastes like cucumber juice. It was ok, but I was still happy to have emptied the coconut shell - I couldn't just stop and tell the people I don't like it, could I?

The highlight was certainly though the water music, performed by women of this village. Water music is actually coming from the Banks Islands, a group of islands in the very north of Vanuatu. At least the water music is something we would like to share with you.

This music is solely made by forming your hands to a bowl and then moving  your hand with different speeds through the water. Something we have nevcer experienced before :)

Enjoy the video :) !
